F1 legend and former McLaren champion Mika Hakkinen clearly warns Max Verstappen amid the dutchman's tight championship race with Lewis Hamilton.

Hakkinen has had his fair share of success with McLaren, winning it all in 1998 and 1999. With that, the Finnish driver knows what it takes to succeed in the sport, even with daunting challenges and world-class opponents.

“Max is at the top of his career, leading the World Championship and determined to keep Lewis behind,” he wrote in his latest Unibet blog.

“I am not sure intimidating Lewis will work. He likes a challenge. It gives him extra focus!”

I don't think that there's a handful of people in this world that can share with every one of their past experiences battling the great Michael Schumacher and teaming up with Ayrton Senna. Hakkinen is lucky enough to have that privilege himself, which allows him to relate former battles to today's hottest rivalry in F1.

“I was [a] team-mate to Ayrton Senna and a rival to Michael Schumacher, two drivers who sometimes used very aggressive tactics.

“There is a famous photograph of me talking to Michael after the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa in 2000, explaining to him why I was unhappy about some of his tactics.

“I love hard racing, but the racing needs to happen on the track.”

After all the individual battles, crashes, and close race wins, three races remain for either Max Verstappen's first F1 title or Lewis Hamilton's eighth. Either way, this season will have one of the best conclusions in F1 history.
