After another standout performance by Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts, head coach Arthur Smith sees that this is just the beginning for the rookie.

Pitts had quite a showing in the Falcons' home win over the Detroit Lions in Week 16. Veteran quarterback Matt Ryan looked for Pitts a multitude of times over the course of the game, and it paid off in the end. Ryan targeted Pitts six times in the contest, and the former Florida Gators star notched six receptions for 102 receiving yards.

In his post-game press conference, Smith kept it simple with his take on Pitts’ rookie campaign so far.

“He’s just getting started,” Smith said.

If this turns out to be the case, then it sure should catch the attention of the Falcons’ NFC South rivals. Overall, Pitts has recorded 64 receptions for 949 receiving yards on the season. More so, he needs a mere 128 receiving yards to surpass longtime Chicago Bears tight end Mike Ditka (1,076 in 1961) for the most such yards by a rookie tight end in NFL history.

Barring any injuries or notable drop off in performance over the Falcons' final two games of the season, Pitts should well shatter this record to bolster his 2021 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year resume.

A crucial road contest against the Buffalo Bills awaits Pitts and the Falcons in Week 17.
