With a 4-8 record heading into Week 14, the Atlanta Falcons will likely miss the playoffs for the third straight season. But that hasn’t stopped quarterback Matt Ryan from achieving personal milestones in his 13th season with the Falcons, including one that he can reach when Atlanta faces the 3-9 Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

The 35-year old Ryan needs just 207 passing yards to pass Peyton Manning for the most passing yards by a player in his first 13 seasons in the league, according to NFL.com's Gil Brandt. Ryan has already surpassed some great quarterbacks along the way, including New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees, the only other active player on the list.

Through 12 games, Ryan has completed 296 of 466 passes for 3436 passing yards, which ranks fifth in the NFL. The 2016 NFL MVP also has 18 touchdown passes and eight interceptions this season. Ryan, however, currently has a 63.5% completion percentage, which will be his lowest since his fourth season in the league back in 2011.

Aside from surpassing Manning in the record books, the four-time Pro Bowler will also look to help the Falcons win their fifth game of the season against the Chargers when they visit SoFi Stadium. Los Angeles is coming off a stinging 45-0 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 13, the most lopsided loss this season.

Atlanta, meanwhile, will look to bounce back after a 21-16 loss to Taysom Hill and the Saints in Week 13, in a game where Ryan completed 19 of 39 passes for 273 passing yards and one touchdown. If he finishes the game with similar numbers against the Chargers, then he should surpass Manning for the impressive record.
