Georgia football is making strides to get back to the College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs landed the no. 1 edge player in the 2025 recruiting class, per On3. Isaiah Gibson chose the Bulldogs over a slew of other schools, including Tennessee, Auburn and South Carolina.

Gibson is a five-star player per On3 recruiting rankings. He is a 6-foot-3, 263 pound edge who will terrorize opposing quarterbacks in the SEC. He also considered USC before making his commitment.

“I have those relationships with Georgia,” Gibson said, per On3. “I am close to the coaching staff, it is a school close to home and I have relationships with the coaches and the team. That made a big difference for me.”

Gibson is actually a Georgia high school football player, so the Bulldogs were able to keep a player close to home. The team's recent success certainly played a role in the commitment. The edge was seriously considering the Trojans, but Georgia stayed on him and was able to scoop up the commitment.

“With Georgia, anything is possible,” Gibson added. “Georgia is just a great place. The overall way that coach Smart runs the program, I feel like it is amazing. It’s remarkable, honestly.

“There is a lot I like about Georgia. I have always had them high on my list. They prepare you to be your best. Georgia puts players into the NFL.”

Gibson is not the only talented Georgia high school player to commit to the Bulldogs. The team also got a recent commitment from versatile offensive lineman Dontrell Glover. Glover also considered Tennessee and South Carolina, so the Bulldogs are keeping in-state talent away from other SEC programs.

Georgia football's upcoming season

Georgia football missed the CFP last season, despite being one of the best teams in college football. Georgia lost the SEC Championship to Alabama, and that essentially kept them out of the playoff. The Bulldogs are entering the 2024 season with expectations to compete again for a SEC Championship.

Coach Kirby Smart found some talent this offseason in the transfer portal. The Bulldogs have four star transfer running back Trevor Etienne from Florida, who will arguably be the team's leading rusher. Georgia also has four star quarterback Jaden Rashada from Arizona State, who will compete to be the starter. Rashada is famously suing the University of Florida over his name, image and likeness rights.

Georgia football starts their season August 31 against Clemson, in a key non conference game. The Bulldogs also play Tennessee Tech, Georgia Tech and UMass in their out of conference slate. The Bulldogs again have to go through Alabama to win a conference title. The two squads meet on September 28, in one of the most anticipated games of the year. Nick Saban retired from Alabama, so the contest brings in even more flair this year.

Gibson will no doubt be watching his future team this season, as the Bulldogs begin their march back to a national championship. The Bulldogs won CFP titles under Smart in 2021 and 2022.
