Ja Morant is beginning to take off as a truly stellar point guard in his third season. He's averaging 25.9 points per game on 49.3 percent shooting from the field and 38.2 percent on threes, in addition to 7.3 assists, 6.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals, for the Memphis Grizzlies. The young star's vastly improved scoring skills and already-elite playmaking have caught the eye of the league's elite talent.
As a guest on the NBA's HooperVision broadcast with Jamal Crawford and Quentin Richardson, Kevin Durant praised Morant's game by comparing him to several All-Star point guards.

Allen Iverson, Steve Nash, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook and Steve Francis. Garnering comparisons to those players, who have amassed five MVP awards and 34 All-Star games, is high praise for Morant.
Durant's praise certainly makes sense, though. Morant's blend of brilliant playmaking, shifty ball-handling and explosive, above-the-rim athleticism is rarely seen in a player, especially one who is only 22 years old. He has had āfuture starā written all over him since he entered the league and this season has been his best to date.
The Grizzlies overall are not as exciting as Morant, though. Their 7-7 record and dismal defense have them in ninth place in the Western Conference. Second-year wing Desmond Bane has stepped up and Dillon Brooks is back from injury, so the Grizzlies still have time to develop more and improve on last year, where they secured a playoff spot via the play-in.
