Rumors about what's next for Grand Theft Auto have been swirling around for months now. One of these is an upcoming remaster for the three classic GTA games. Kotaku's report confirms this rumor to be true. Additionally, the remasters will apparently be coming to multiple platforms – including the Nintendo Switch.

A new rating by Korea's Game Rating and Administration Committee has been published recently for “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition” which seemingly verifies these rumors. However, Rockstar has yet to officially announce the remastered trilogy.

This remaster trilogy will allegedly include the classic PlayStation 2 era titles: Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, and Grant Theft Auto San Andreas. The same report claims that these remasters are also already in the final stages of development. Additionally, Rockstar is developing the remasters on the Unreal Engine, with an updated UI. Apparently, though gameplay details are scarce, the remastered trilogy aims to stay as true to the PS2-era experience as possible, updating the UI but keeping with the classic feel of the original games.

The Kotaku report also confirms that one of Rockstar's newest studios, the Scottish branch in Dundee, is in charge of the remasters' development. Rockstar Dundee was previously known as Ruffian Games. They previously worked on Crackdown 2, and Crackdown 3. They also contributed to the Halo: Master Chief Collection.

The Grand Theft Auto remaster trilogy is allegedly coming out in October or November 2021 for consoles. These platforms are the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, and Nintendo Switch. Apparently, Rockstar might delay the PC and mobile ports into next year.

Further lending credence to these rumors is Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive's past announcements. In an investor call earlier this month, they claimed that the company was working on three unannounced “iterations of previously released titles.” Additionally, they have also taken recent legal actions on Grand Theft Auto 3 mods.

More recently, official pages on the PlayStation Store and on Steam are now accessible, all but confirming the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy set of remasters. Based on the Steam page, it appears that the games will also be available for purchase individually.
