The New York Jets are heading into an incredibly important season for the franchise. The Jets are hoping to get the last good football out of 40-year-old QB Aaron Rodgers. You would think that it would be all hands on deck in New York, but that hasn't been the case at this point in the offseason. Haason Reddick has frustrated the Jets by being absent for the entire offseason so far.

Jets pass rusher Haason Reddick is ghosting New York this offseason. Reddick has missed all mandatory offseason activities and is still away from the team.

He recently posted a photo on social media, revealing that he is traveling in Japan.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh has tried to keep a cool head around the situation. Last week, he voiced support for Reddick as someone he's not worried about.

“The guy is a great dude. He's played at a high level at multiple places. He's a pro and seasoned vet. He's the last guy I'm worried about will be ready to play football,” Saleh said, per Zack Rosenblatt.

Rumors have spread that Reddick is absent due to a contract dispute. Allegedly, the Jets told him since his arrival in New York that he will have to earn a contract extension.

However, Reddick dismissed these rumors with a recent social media post.

“Stop believing the foolery y’all see on these social media apps and news outlets. Running crazy narratives and y’all eating it up,” Reddick posted on social media.

For the record, Reddick is not alone. QB Aaron Rodgers missed two days of practice at the start of mandatory minicamp due to a previously scheduled vacation.

Ultimately, nobody will care about this offseason narrative as long as Reddick and Rodgers are ready for the start of the regular season.

Will Haason Reddick be able to replicate Bryce Huff's production on Jets' defense?

The Jets made a daring trade for Haason Reddick after they realized they would not be able to retain Bryce Huff. He tested free agency and signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Some fans have questioned whether Reddick really is an upgrade over Bryce Huff, and whether the Jets should have simply extended Huff in the first place.

Let's start with the financials. This may be a situation where the actual cash paid to a player is more important than salary cap numbers. The main reason to believe this is because it makes no sense from a cap perspective to prefer Reddick over Huff.

Reddick is on the final year of his existing contract and has a $15 million cap hit in 2024. Meanwhile, Huff has a $4.35 million cap hit in 2024 and the largest of his three-year contract is $11.73 million in 2026.

Bryce Huff (26) is also younger than Haason Reddick (turns 30 in September) while providing similar production in 2023. Huff logged 10 sacks and 21 QB hits, whereas Reddick had 11 sacks and 23 QB hits.

Perhaps New York was looking for a player who they viewed as a reliable contributor in 2024 alone. If that is the case, you can make an argument for Reddick over Huff.

Jets fans will certainly be tracking the production of both of these players throughout the fall and winter.
