The New York Jets swung a trade to acquire edge rusher Haason Reddick earlier this season, but he is already engaged in a contract dispute with the team.

Reddick has not been present at Jets mandatory minicamp as a result of the standoff, and rumor has it that New York told him from the jump that it would not be extending him beyond the final year of his deal in 2024, via Connor Hughes of SNY.

There is a lot of hearsay surrounding Reddick and the Jets right now, and the star pass rusher has taken to social media to quell the noise.

“Stop believing the foolery y’all see on these social media apps and news outlets. Running crazy narratives and y’all eating it up.”

But the thing is, no one really knows what to believe.

Reddick was apparently on board with the Jets' decision to not give him a new deal, per Hughes. But if that were the case, then why is Reddick not present at mandatory minicamp? Wouldn't he be at practice with his new teammates if this were all already settled?

Someone could just say “typical Jets,” but really, we don't know for sure what is going on here.

Perhaps we will find out more as things progress.

New York already had a terrific defense before acquiring Reddick, as it ranked third in the NFL in defense last season.

The Jets did lose fellow edge rusher Bryce Huff to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, but then they went and landed Reddick in a trade with the Eagles. While Huff is younger and ascending, it's hard to argue with the idea that Reddick is an upgrade over Huff.

Reddick has racked up 50.5 sacks over the last four seasons, posting double-digit sacks each year. His most impressive campaign came in 2022, when he rattled off 16 sacks to go along with 49 tackles, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He finished fourth in Defensive Player of the Year voting as a result.

Last season, the 29-year-old registered 38 tackles and 11 sacks.

The Jets accumulated 48 sacks as a team in 2023, which is an impressive number. Adding Reddick should only bolster that total.

Of course, Reddick actually has to play first, and things have certainly not gotten off to a great start between the two sides.

Chances are, Reddick and the Jets will ultimately resolve their differences and Reddick will show up to camp. He was thrilled to join New York when he first arrived, raving about how dangerous the Jets will be this coming season. So it seems hard to imagine that he is going to sit out.

Then again, if there was a miscommunication from the jump, maybe Reddick is now frustrated and is thinking a bit differently.

The good news is that there is time for both sides to get things figured out. Training camp is still well over a month away, we have about three months to go until the regular season. But obviosuly, this is not a great sign no matter how you spin it.
