According to a new news report, the Atlanta Hawks have added Deytona Davis to a 10-day contract, which is nothing if not interesting.

SB Nation says that this is something that the team is trying to see if Davis will be a wise investment for their future, as the former No. 31 pick is nothing if not a young player who can be molded into something that the team can use in the coming years.

While Davis appeared in 98 games for the Memphis Grizzlies across two seasons, he has not taken part in an NBA game during the 2018-19 season.

The good news is Deytona Davis is averaging 9.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game in 43 contests with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the G League. When extended out on a per-36 minute basis, his numbers would appear more impressive (15.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks) and it will be interesting to see if Atlanta extends Davis the opportunity for playing time during his 10-day stint.

This worked out well with BJ Thompson, so perhaps it will work out with Davis, too.

As with Thompson, though, nothing with Davis is guaranteed.

In the past, Atlanta’s front office has focused its efforts in taking fliers on wing players in this kind of situation but, with the current setup of the roster, a big man arguably makes more sense and Deytona Davis has the youth and talent to make things intriguing.
