Atlanta Hawks rookie forward Omari Spellman will miss the next four weeks of the season due to a high ankle sprain, according to Atlanta's official Twitter account.

Spellman–the third of three first-round picks for the Hawks in the 2018 Draft–also missed a stretch of time in December due to hip soreness, and has played in 46 games this season, making 11 starts.

The former Villanova product is averaging very respectable per-36 numbers with 12.2 points and 8.7 rebounds. He has also shown the ability to stretch the floor as a four-man, shooting close to 35 percent from beyond the arc.

The Hawks spent most of the first two months at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, but have since seen marked improvements due in part to the sensational play of Trae Young as of late.

Atlanta's front office has been very high on Young as well as Spellman and fellow rookie Kevin Huerter, and John Collins has made a tremendous leap in his sophomore season.

With Spellman already out for the next four weeks, it would not be a surprise if Atlanta decided to shut him down for the rest of the season.

For a team in a rebuilding year, it does not make a lot of sense to run Spellman out for the last two weeks of the season.

He has already dealt with multiple injuries, and the Hawks are likely to do everything in their power to preserve the health of their young players as they continue to look to the future.
