The rebuilding Atlanta Hawks will have a good problem in their hands as the team is looking to pit prized rookie Trae Young and veteran Jeremy Lin for the starting point guard role. Chris Vivlamore, writer for the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, tweeted out this interesting development.

The Hawks have dealt point guard Dennis Schroder to the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, leaving the team a gaping need for an effective playmaker. The team has since acquired the services of the 30-year old Lin, in a bid to fill in for a veteran presence on a young Hawks team.

While Lin may not be an overall upgrade over Schroder, Lin's eight-year experience in the NBA will be a welcome sight for the young team. Lin is not known to be a volume dimer as he just averaged 4.5 assists throughout his career. But he is adept in setting up his teammates for opportunities to score and make plays. Aside from that, Lin is also a known scorer, especially during the crucial stretches of a game.

On the other hand, Young could virtually be one of the most exciting players in the league this season. His oozing confidence in his game makes him one of the most intriguing prospects in the NBA right now. His scoring ability is definitely his trump card as he led the NCAA in scoring last year, averaging an incredible 27.4 points per game. The 6-foot-2's passing ability does not take a step backward either as he put up 8.7 assists per game in his one year with the Oklahoma Sooners.

Either way, new Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce does have something to figure out come training camp as Lin and Young look to audition for the starting point guard gig.
