On Tuesday, Atlanta Hawks veteran Vince Carter had a memorable night against his former team, the Toronto Raptors. Carter and the Hawks were hosted by the Raptors at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, and the home crowd gave Carter an ovation that showed just how much love the city has for their former son.

Carter had mad love for Toronto as well, and he took to Twitter after the game to share his appreciation for the moving gesture.

For those who are unaware, the 6ix is a colloquial term that refers to the city of Toronto. The term was coined as a reference to the six cities that were merged in 1998 to form the new city of Toronto.

Carter was drafted fifth overall by the Golden State Warriors in 1999, but was immediately shipped off to Toronto in a draft-day trade deal that had All-Star Antawn Jamison going the opposite direction.

Carter would then spend the first six and a half seasons of his career with the Raptors, and this where he would make his name — quite literally, as his moniker of “Air Canada” was born while he was in Toronto.

Unfortunately, the Air Canada of old failed to make an appearance on Tuesday, as Vince Carter played only 13 minutes in this one, scoring six points on two-of-six shooting. The 41-year-old also added one rebound, a steal, and three turnovers in a night that was memorable not for his performance, but for the gratitude shown to him by the adoring home fans.
