The Miami Heat aren't playing around in the 2022 offseason. After losing in the Conference Finals to the Boston Celtics, they are looking at making drastic moves for their roster. That, of course, includes gunning for the big fish in the market that are available, like Kevin Durant.

The Heat were listed as one of the teams that Kevin Durant would be interested in playing for, AND have actual interest to trade for him. However, there are a few logistical roadblocks that keep this from happening. If KD decides that he doesn't want to join a gutted Miami roster, though, there's another name that's seemingly available for them: Donovan Mitchell.

It's been widely reported that Donovan Mitchell status' in Utah is not safe even after the Rudy Gobert trade. Andy Larsen reported that the Heat are dark horses in acquiring the star guard. According to him, Mitchell is the Heat's “backup plan” in case their Durant pursuit falls through.

Donovan Mitchell's name has been floating around in Heat rumors ever since the start of the offseason. The Jazz guard has been discontent in Utah, and he has been spotted hanging out with Butler and other NBA stars. If the Heat do get him, he'll be a perfect addition to a team that severely lacked in the offensive department in the playoffs.

The only real question surrounding these rumors is, “How much will Miami have to give up for Donovan Mitchell in a trade?” Utah will be asking for a king's ransom for their star guard. They will likely want one of Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro (maybe even both) to jumpstart their rebuild. Is that a price Pat Riley is willing to pay?
