Now in the final season of his four-year, $48 million deal, Charlotte Hornets All-Star point guard Kemba Walker will be one of the hottest prospects in the market once he hits free agency this summer.

This marks the first time in his career that the 28-year-old will enter unrestricted free agency, and Walker recently admitted that he is unfamiliar with the ins-and-outs of being a free agent. Nonetheless, he is adamant that with the help of his agent, he will be able to make the right play.

“I don’t know how it goes,” Walker said, via Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today. “Me and my agent will sit down and get it right.”

Walker is in the midst of his best season as a pro, averaging a career-best 24.9 points (on 43.1 percent shooting), 3.3 three-pointers (also a career-high), 4.4 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.5 blocks, and 2.5 turnovers in 34.4 minutes per ballgame.

Walkers is as durable as they come, as the former ninth overall pick has been able to suit up for all 57 games of the Hornets so far this season. Amazingly, he has also played in 240 out of the 246 regular season contests for Charlotte in the three preceding seasons prior to this one.

The general belief is that Walker will sign an extension with the Hornets this summer, and that he is set to receive a very handsome payday once he does. Nonetheless, we all know that anything can happen in this league, so until pen is put to paper, nothing is certain.
