It was revealed just over a week ago that Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas would not require surgery to repair his ailing hip injury.

During his annual basketball clinic at Boston University on Saturday, Thomas gave the Celtics fans even greater news that he expects to be ready by the start of training camp in September, according to Stephen Hewitt of the Boston Herald.

“I should be ready by camp, but I’m getting back in the gym shooting and being able to work out in the weight room and get my cardio back because I’ve been down for two and a half months since the season ended,” Thomas said. “It’s getting there though. This week has been great progress for me.”

It should be noted that Isaiah Thomas did also state that the rehab process has been a slow one, but did indicate that he has seen some continuous progress in the right direction. It's something that he believes only needs rest and rehab in order to heal properly.

The 28-year-old has seen his season end abruptly in the playoffs due to the aggravation of a hip injury that occurred in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Isaiah Thomas is coming off the heels of his best individual year where he averaged career-highs with 28.9 points on 46.3 percent shooting from the field along with 5.9 assists that helped him earn his second All-Star team selection and first All-NBA Second Team nod. He's also set to enter the final year of his deal worth $6.3 million.
