Despite having no picks in last month’s draft, the Brooklyn Nets managed to add some key pieces to their roster via trades. Following the arrival of D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov, the team was able to bring in former Toronto Raptors swingman DeMarre Carroll to further improve their lineup.

Jeremy Lin recently spoke about his feelings on playing with Carroll, telling Brian Lewis of the New York Post that he is excited to see what DeMarre brings to the table. He knows Carroll's outside shooting will be a big help to the Nets this coming season, as well as his leadership.

“He’s going to be so instrumental because we desperately need somebody [like him]. He can definitely shoot the 3 and he can definitely play defense, which we really, really need help with. And he can do more than that. But just veteran leadership, toughness, grit, I’m hoping he comes in and is a vocal leader. Those are some things that we need.”

“Oh, he’ll definitely help me.  We have to collectively keep each other accountable and push each other. That’s just what we’re trying to get towards; and I’m sure he’ll help, with the things I’ve heard about him.I don’t know him personally, but I’ve heard and talked to someone on the Raptors [on Saturday]. He was talking about his personality, how he is, and he was raving about him.”

Although the Nets are still projected as one of the worst teams in the league, the addition of Carroll may just be what they need to surprise a lot of fans and win more games than expected. The playoffs are a stretch, but if they play well together and adjust quickly to head coach Kenny Atkinson‘s system, that goal may be within reach for the team.
