For many New York Jets fans, when All-Pro safety Jamal Adams was traded to the Seattle Seahawks, there was a general sense of gloom and doom about how the defense would operate in his absence. But Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams doesn't appear to be plussed about his departure:

“We’ll do still the same patterns of things,” Williams said, via Pro Football Talk's transcription. “We’ll still do a lot of the same exact things, but we’ll highlight the people will have here and, as you saw, what we did [Adams] had maybe his most productive year here.”

Having come over in exchange for Adams is veteran safety Bradley McDougald, who has missed just two games over the past six years. While McDougald has not compiled the individual resume that Adams has, he has racked up at least 70 combined tackles over each of the past three seasons, while nabbing five interceptions and forcing four fumbles in that span.

Even with Adams' services, the Jets yielded 22.8 points per game last season, finishing near the middle of the pack. But it was against the run game that Williams and New York excelled, limiting opponents to 86.9 yards, the second-lowest average in the league.

How quickly New York is able to replace Adams and his contributions remains to be seen, but when the team opens the season against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 13, it appears that Williams is comfortable with the defense that he has presented. The Jets and Seahawks are slated to square off Dec. 13.
