Due to the well-documented poor conditions of the Olympic Village apartments in Rio, Team USA decided to stay on a secured luxury cruise ship called the Silversea Silver Cloud, docked in Rio's port.

This sounds like a fantastic backup plan, opposed to staying in tiny single cot rooms that leak water from the walls.

However, according to his Team USA teammates,  Jimmy Butler isn't so thrilled about the situation because he's afraid of water.

DeAndre Jordan told Sports Illustrated that Butler was not happy about the move:

“Jimmy Butler doesn’t like water,” DeAndre Jordan told SI.com’s Chris Chavez. “So we were talking about, ‘Would you jump off the boat or would you get in?’ [He says,] ‘No and don’t play with me about it.’ He definitely does not like the water at all.”

It's an exciting proposition for most people to have a front row view of the ocean from an exotic place like Rio, but Butler decided that the sight of water wasn't for him.

Teammate Draymond Green confirmed Jimmy's phobia:

“(Jimmy) don’t want to be near the water,” Draymond Green said. “He doesn’t want his room facing the water. Nothing. It’s incredible to me.”

When reporters asked Butler about staying on the ship initially, he said it's “just like a hotel, it just floats.”

There are no clues on the background of Butler's fear of water, whether it's from some past trauma or that he's just a complete land-lover at heart. The thing's for sure: if you plan on bumping into Butler on summer vacation, don't expect it to happen on a cruise liner.
