The Sacramento Kings made a massive leap in the 2018-19 season, winning 12 more games and even flirting with a Western Conference playoff spot for a good portion of the season before eventually succumbing to injuries and, for lack of a better term, youth. Still, that same youth is the reason that the future is extremely bright. While the Kings are hoping that both De'Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley III continue to develop into All-Star talents, the exceptional play of second-year player Bogdan Bogdanovic was as encouraging development as any.

Despite being relegated to the bench, Bogdanovic played well in the Sixth Man role, averaging 14.1 points, 3.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds. He saw a decrease in efficiency from beyond the arc, but still managed to shoot at a 36 percent clip from deep.

Bogdanovic spoke about his capabilities in an interview with Sasa Ozmo of Sportklub (translated by Yiannis Bouranis of TalkBasket.net):

“I was never, even when I had the best season, completely satisfied. I always thought I could do better and think I still don’t know my maximum.

The injury set me back a bit, firstly because of the way I joined the team because I have never had to play limited minutes before.

This has affected my game, as well as changing the role in the team. There were a lot of oscillations due to adaptation, but we were good teamwise with 40 wins and I’m somewhat satisfied.”

For all of the promise Bogdanovic and the Kings showed this season, the front office has hardly shown that same level of competence. Team president Vlade Divac elected to fire head coach Dave Joerger despite the fact that Joerger led the Kings to their best record in 11 seasons.

Bogdanovic and the Kings will look to take the next step in the midst of a rather calamitous beginning to the 2019 offseason.
