The Sacramento Kings are dealing with an injury to one of their key players long before the 2018-19 season could even start. According to Sean Cunningham of ABC10, Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox has a sore left Achilles, leaving him unavailable to play later tonight against the Golden State Warriors’ Summer League unit.

Although the severity of the injury is yet to be known, it’s only wise for the King to sit their point guard than risk Fox into further aggravating his injury by letting him play in a glorified practice game. After all, it’s just a Summer League contest, which is more useful to other young players looking to secure contracts than for pieces with guaranteed deals like Fox. That said, the former Kentucky Wildcats star is bound for free agency next year.

Fox played Monday night against the Los Angeles Lakers’ Summer League squad and had an easy time proving that he’s a cut above the rest of the field, as he paced the Kings with 23 points to go with eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

With De’Aaron Fox out for tonight’s meeting with the Warriors, Sacramento could give more run for the likes of Frank Mason and Justin Jackson. There should also be more focus on rookie Marvin Bagley III, who had a solid debut in the 98-93 win over the Lakers with 18 points, six boards, and three blocks.

The soonest Fox can return to Summer League action is on this Thursday against the Miami Heat at Golden 1 Center.
