The Sacramento Kings have hired Joe Dumars as a special advisor to general manager Vlade Divac, the team announced in a press release.

Dumars will report to Divac and serve as a resource to the Kings' front office.

“Joe and I played together in the league and is a legend in our sport,” said Kings General Manager Vlade Divac. “As an experienced and talented basketball executive, I’m excited to have him serve as a special advisor and expert resource for our incredible front office team.”

“I’ve known Vlade for decades, and I’m thrilled to work with him and the Sacramento Kings at such an exciting time for the franchise,” said Dumars.

Dumars was president of basketball operations for the Detroit Pistons for 13 seasons (2000-14). The Pistons won the title in 2004 over the Los Angeles Lakers. Dumars became the first African American executive to lead an organization to an NBA championship.

The Kings are on the rise. Yes, you read that correctly. The team's young core of De'Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley III, Buddy Hield and Bogdan Bogdanovic is as good as any young roster in the league. The Kings hired former Lakers head coach Luke Walton as Dave Joerger's replacement this offseason.

It would be cool to see Sacramento back in the playoffs in 2019-20. The franchise hasn't been to the postseason since 2006.
