With another season set to unfold, the Sacramento Kings have employed some additional point guard depth in the form of Kalin Lucas.

According to Gery Woelfel, lead editor of woelfelspressbox.com, the Ex-Michigan State Spartan was pursued by numerous NBA teams, but has decided to sign with the Kings and will ink his contract today.

It’s unsure why either side chose to push through with this deal given the stacked rotation currently on the roster. De’Aaron Fox, Yogi Ferrell, and Frank Mason III are all signed to guaranteed contracts through 2018-2019 and Lucas looks to be the 3rd string point guard at best.

Given also that he only stands 6’1”, he may be too small to play shooting guard, which would further hamper his ability to stay on the court. It may have been in his best interest to sign with a floor general hungry team like the Orlando Magic or Phoenix Suns.

Still, from a basketball player’s perspective, anytime a legitimate NBA club shows interest in your services, it hard to focus on these nitty-gritty details. Obviously, you would want to just get the paperwork out of the way and get on the hardwood as soon as possible.

It may be an uphill climb for Kalin Lucas, but at least he has one foot already in the door. This is really only the beginning of him finally realizing his dream of playing on the grandest stage of them all.
