The Sacramento Kings have reportedly requested an interview with former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic and Marc Stein of the New York Times.

The Kings also intend to request permission from the San Antonio Spurs to interview assistant coach Ettore Messina.

Sacramento fired Dave Joerger on Thursday. He went 98-148 with the team.

The Kings just finished their best season since 2006. The team won 39 games in 2018-19.

Sacramento general manager Vlade Divac, who got a contract extension on Thursday, reportedly had a tense relationship with Joerger behind the scenes.

Walton went 98-148 with the Lakers. He joined Los Angeles in 2016 and was let go on Friday.

Messina is a well-respected guy around the league. He's been an assistant coach with the Spurs since 2014 and won four EuroLeague championships as a head coach.

The Kings have a bright future, something we haven't been able to say in a very long time. Point guard De'Aaron Fox, shooting guard Buddy Hield and power forward Marvin Bagley III all have All-Star potential. Sacramento almost made the postseason this year. They are expected to compete for a playoff spot again in 2019-20.

The Kings have the longest playoff drought in the NBA.
