Sacramento Kings point guard De'Aaron Fox is eligible to sign a lucrative rookie-scale extension this offseason and all signs point toward the lefty signing one with the Kings.

However, one NBA general manager told Sean Deveney of Forbes that the Kings may have to overpay Fox to keep him in Sacramento since the franchise doesn't have a history of attracting superstar players in free agency.

“No doubt you are going to pay De'Aaron Fox,” one general manager told Deveney.

“Who else are you going to get to come to Sacramento? You have to pay him, overpay him, because it’ll be tough to bring in free agents. If you can sign him, no matter the cost, if you’re the Kings, you do it. I think he gets a max offer from them and he takes it. Simple.”

Fox could sign the richest deal in Kings franchise history this summer. General manager Vlade Divac can't afford to lose Fox since De'Aaron is one of the best young players in the NBA and has All-Star potential.

Before the season was suspended in March, Fox was averaging 20.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 6.8 assists for the Kings. The speedster was also shooting 47.5 percent from the field, 30.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 70.3 percent from the free-throw line.

While Fox did hurt his ankle on Wednesday, he's not expected to miss any seeding games, which start on July 30. The youngster has career averages of 15.9 points, 3.5 boards, and 6.1 assists. The Kings drafted Fox with the fifth overall pick in the 2017 draft out of Kentucky.
