Veterans are the ones who are supposed to give rookies a rude awakening in the pros. Cleveland Cavaliers 36-year-old point guard Jose Calderon probably didn’t get the memo saying that, as he wound up on the short end of one play during Wednesday’s home game against the Sacramento Kings.

Calderon was trying to complete a give-and-go play with LeBron James as the passer, but the problem was that he wasn’t fast enough to shake off his defender, Kings rookie guard De’Aaron Fox, who swatted the Spaniard’s shot away.

Fox’s block was something you could say he learned from the LeBron James of Blocking Shots from Behind.

Even during his younger days, Calderon wasn't viewed as someone either fast or athletic enough to get away from his more deft defenders. He’s always relied on his basketball smarts and on making the right decisions on the floor. Unfortunately for Calderon, Fox’s quickness beat his wit on that play.

Fox is trying to learn as much as he can in his first year in the league, and it seems that he’s starting to time the ball better of late. Including his erasure of Calderon’s shot, the Kentucky product now has five blocks in three games.
