It has been an interesting NBA offseason for the New York Knicks, to say the least. The team and superstar Carmelo Anthony have been in the headlines on a daily basis this summer for all the wrong reasons. Anthony wants out of New York, and the Knicks want to make it happen, but it isn't that simple.

As if Anthony's no-trade clause wasn't a big enough hurdle for the Knicks brass, the team went through a drastic change recently with Phil Jackson stepping down. Following Jackson's exit, the Knicks have turned to Scott Perry to be the team's general manager and the first order of business appears to be is trying to figure out the Anthony situation. Carmelo said the following about his talks with Perry recently in an interview with ESPN's Scott Van Pelt, transcription via SB Nation's Posting and Toasting:

“There've been plenty of conversations that have been had on both sides. I think we both know where we stand as far as myself, as far as the Knicks organization. They know how I feel. I know how they feel. We have been in communication. At this point, I want to see what happens. I just want to enjoy my offseason despite everything that's surrounding me…. I've had great conversations with new GM Scott Perry. He understands my mindset, where I'm at. My career right now, what I'm looking for. Things were put on the table. It was great dialogue, great conversations from both sides. Respectful from both sides.”

Unless something drastic happens this summer, Anthony's future seems to be elsewhere with the Houston Rockets being his most likely destination. Houston is trying to build a team that can compete with the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference and took a step closer pairing James Harden with Chris Paul.

Adding Anthony alongside Paul and Harden may give the Rockets the players needed to make a big jump next season, but it remains to be seen if a deal gets done with Perry now running the show in New York.
