It has been a topsy-turvy season so far for the New York Knicks — and it could be even wilder. According to Ian Begley of SportsNet New York, at least one team who reached out to the Knicks ahead of the NBA trade deadline on February 10 came away “with the impression that Julius Randle would be available for the right return.”

It seems that no one is sacred on the current Knicks roster. If Randle could be given away in a trade, who else could be untouchable on the team? The Knicks are currently outside of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. After back-to-back losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat on Monday and Wednesday, respectively, New York has called to 11th place in the East with a 23-26 record.

The Knicks were a good story last season, when they made the playoffs for the first time since 2013, though they failed to get past the first round. This season, they have seemingly taken a step back, which can also be said about Randle. The do-it-all forward is averaging 18.7 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game — still solid numbers but down across the board from his averages last season. He is also just shooting only 41.2 percent from the field.

Randle signed a four-year extension with the Knicks in August 2021 and has a massive $96.78 million in guaranteed salary.
