A slot in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest was initially reserved for Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso. Sadly, fans won't see the Bald Mamba's throwdown theatrics as he wants to use the short break for some rest and relaxation.

Per Bill Oram of The Athletic, Caruso pointed to the relatively short offseason as his main reason for saying no to the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. He even shared what exactly he'll do during the midseason break.

“Maybe looking forward to (the break) a little bit more. I'll probably just play some golf with some buddies and leave it at that.”

Caruso has become one of the most popular players, not just among Lakers fans, but in the entire NBA. He even netted over 200,00 votes for the NBA All-Star Game.

His rise to fame is due to a bunch of factors. Some are wowed by his surprising athleticism, while some have a deeper appreciation for Caruso's tremendous basketball IQ on both ends of the floor. Even LeBron James has heaped praise on the undrafted guard.

But just like LeBron, Alex Caruso is very much looking forward to the All-Star break. They need all the rest they can get after going all the way to the NBA Finals last year.

Obi Toppin of the New York Knicks, Cassius Stanley of the Washington Wizards, and Anfernee Simons of the Portland Trail Blazers will battle for the title in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, which will be held during halftime of the All-Star Game.
