The MRI on the right thumb of Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis has returned clean, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Davis and frontcourt partner LeBron James however are expected to sit out Monday night's game against the Golden State Warriors.

Davis initially injured his thumb during the last of two preseason games against the Brooklyn Nets, this one in Shenzhen, China. The Lakers first believed it was a sprain, but declined to give a full update until he was evaluated in-house.

The Brow injured his hand challenging for a block in the first quarter. Davis went to the locker room shortly afterward to apply some ice and returned to the bench, watching the rest of the game from the bench. Davis took part in the first quarter and finished with six points on 2-of-7 shooting, along with three rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. The new Lakers addition averaged 19 points on 50% shooting from the floor, along with 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and a block in 22 minutes of preseason action per game.

Davis was limited to 56 games with the New Orleans Pelicans last season after sustaining knee and shoulder injuries — all while dealing with the fallout from his trade request. He's been named an All-Star in six of his seven seasons in the league, averaging 25.9 points and 12 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.4 blocks last season.

Now that the team is aware that there was no ligament damage to his right thumb, it's likely the Lakers will take every precaution and hold him out until the start of the regular season on Oct. 22 against the LA Clippers.
