New Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Dion Waiters is going to play for the South Bay Lakers on Friday, per Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times.

Waiters has yet to play for the Lakers since signing a minimum deal with the team last week:

Waiters played in only three games for the Miami Heat this season because of suspensions. He averaged 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 38.5 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from beyond the arc.

The Lakers needed backcourt help and signed Waiters over JR Smith. The Purple and Gold are pretty much the last team Waiters will get a chance with if he doesn't take his opportunity with the Lakers seriously.

Remember earlier in the season when Waiters suffered a panic attack on the Heat charter plane after consuming a THC-infused edible? Those type of things won’t be tolerated on the Lakers, who are championship contenders with LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way. Waiters needs to follow the lead of Dwight Howard, who has been on his best behavior in Los Angeles and got his contract guaranteed after signing a non-guaranteed deal.

The last time we saw Waiters get real playing time in the NBA was last season. Dion averaged 12.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the Heat while shooting 41.4 percent from the floor, 37.7 percent from beyond the arc and just 50.0 percent from the free-throw line. Waiters missed the first 35 games of the season because of the ankle surgery he underwent in the 2017-18 campaign.

The Lakers are coming off a tough home loss to the Brooklyn Nets. They are back in action on Thursday against James Harden, Russell Westbrook and the Houston Rockets.
