If you thought that the Los Angeles Lakers are just one more team in Rajon Rondo's long list of squads he's played for, then you're absolutely wrong. Suiting up for the Purple & Gold means a lot to the former All-Star, and his reaction to his second debut for the Lakers serves as a clear testament to this fact.
Rondo made his first appearance of the season for the Lakers on Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets. After the loss, the 35-year-old veteran revealed that the way the home crowd in Staples Center welcomed him back nearly reduced him to tears:
“I almost cried again last night,” Rondo said, via TMZ Sports. “It means everything. I was away for a year … came back and the reception I got last night, I had to try to focus on the game.
“The love I got, the attention from the crowd getting back in the game. It was amazing.”
Rondo came off the bench for the Lakers during Sunday's preseason matchup, and he logged only nine minutes of action. He did not take a single shot attempt during his time on the floor and ended up with just three rebounds and an assist.
Rondo is not expected to play heavy minutes for LA this coming season, but there's no denying that he's going to be an integral part of the squad. He's a fan-favorite among the Lakers faithful, and the feeling is clearly mutual for Rondo.
