Los Angeles Lakers center Javale McGee is known for his high-flying antics. Whether that be catching alley-oops, being his goofy self, or getting called for goaltending violations, McGee is one in a kind.

Per Chris Herring of ESPN's Five Thirty-Eight, McGee has more goaltending violations than 29 other NBA teams so far this season.

Goaltending Violations, 2018-19

1A. JaVale McGee, 13

1B. New York Knicks, 13

3. Charlotte Hornets, 11

3. Minnesota TWolves, 11

4. Boston Celtics, 10

Herring then goes on to say in his piece:

“But this is nothing new for McGee: Since his rookie year, he has somehow managed to lead the NBA in goaltending violations per 100 possessions in each of the eight seasons in which he logged at least 400 minutes of playing time. With 214 goaltends in his career, including one season when he logged a league-high 55, there have obviously been some true head-scratchers.”

Those numbers are really astronomical in comparison the rest of the league. McGee has a penchant for the oddities of basketball lore.

This season though McGee has proven to be a very important part of the Los Angeles Lakers. He's averaging 11.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 0.9 assists while shooting 61.4 percent from the field. He's also leading the team in blocks per game with 2.5. He's third in the entire NBA in blocks with 71, only trailing big men Anthony Davis and Myles Turner who have 72 and 76 respectively.

McGee has been vital for the playmakers all around him. He can run to the rim and catch lobs on the fast break or in pick and rolls in the halfcourt. He's taking efficient shots and making them for the Lakers, something they haven't had in a center quite in some while.
