The Los Angeles Lakers season has been filled with a lot of turmoil and ups and downs. On Sunday night, that continued.

The Lakers hosted the Minnesota Timberwolves and led for most of the first half. But they saw their lead whittled down to only three points going to the break. As the teams headed toward the locker room, Lakers superstar LeBron James appeared to chase down LA assistant coach Phil Handy.

The two of them appeared to have words, with LeBron looking frustrated and Handy disturbed and not wanting to discuss the problem.

Midway through the second quarter, the Lakers led by nine points. Any lead is not safe for the Lakers though. They have struggled to put teams away this season.

LA entered the game Sunday a game under .500 at 18-19. That's good enough for the eighth seed in the Western Conference. But they are only three games ahead of the San Antonio Spurs who are currently the first team out of the play-in tournament.

Handy has been an assistant coach in the NBA for 11 years. He began with the Lakers in player development from 2011-2013. He moved onto an assistant coach position with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors before landing with the Lakers once again in 2019.

LeBron and company are hoping to hold their lead and get some momentum heading toward the second half of the season. With so many teams bunched in the standings, the season can go any which way.
