The Los Angeles Lakers made waves when they decided to hire first-time head coach Darvin Ham as their new man at the helm. It was a bold decision to hire someone with zero experience as a head coach, which most saw as a noteworthy move by the Lakers front office.

According to ESPN's NBA insider Brian Windhorst, however, he believes that LeBron James and the Lakers are merely copying the blueprint of the Los Angeles Clippers and the Boston Celtics when they hired Tyronn Lue and Ime Udoka, respectively. On a recent episode of his podcast, Windhorst explains why he believes this is the case:

“His [Ham's] resumé, both as a player and as an assistant, to Ty Lue and Ime Udoka,” Windhorst said (h/t Eric Eulau of the SunHerald). “Ty Lue and Ime Udoka's resumes, they're a little bit different type of people, but their resumes are very similar. Darvin's resume is very similar to that. They are attempting to replicate the success that Ty and Ime had, although with a guy that's slightly different in his makeup.”

Fair point from Windy here. If this is true, though, I don't see anything wrong with what the Lakers are doing. After all, the Clippers and the Celtics have both found success with their own coaches. The Celtics, in particular, are now just two wins away from a title. If the Lakers are indeed attempting to replicate success, then it wouldn't be a bad idea to look to some of the top teams in the league.
