Another game, another record for Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James. Against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday, James reached double-digits in scoring for the 1,261st time, surpassing Kevin Garnett for fourth all-time.

LeBron James also has an on-going record for most consecutive games scoring at least 10 points. The record, which started on Jan. 6, 2007 stands at  999 consecutive games. In second place is Michael Jordan with 866 and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 787.

It's definitely a notable feat given that scoring isn't necessarily LeBron James' best asset. Ever since he entered the league 18 years ago, analysts have praised his passing and vision which they've compared with Lakers icon Magic Johnson.

But what sets James apart is his heft and speed, which people have compared to a football halfback. This has allowed LeBron James to muscle his way to the ring. Even centers and forwards bigger than him have no counter for his brute strength. James later developed a reliable jump shot which made him one hell of a potent offensive player.

James is currently in third place on the all-time scoring list. According to several calculations, James can overtake Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the number one spot as long as he averages around 25 points per game over the next two seasons. In an interview last year, LeBron James acknowledged the record, noting that he intends to just go with the flow rather than actively chase it.

“I would be lying if I said I don’t see it,” LeBron James said, per Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press. “Obviously I’m not trying to say, ‘OK, well if I play this amount of time, if I average this’ … I’m not doing that because I’ve never done that with my career. I’ve always just kind of let it happen. Whatever happens, happens. But I see it. I do see it.”

What scoring record will LeBron James claim next? More importantly, will he be crowned the greatest scorer in NBA history?
