The San Antonio Spurs announced Monday that starting point guard Dejounte Murray suffered a torn ACL in his right knee Sunday against the Houston Rockets and will likely miss the entire 2018-19 season. One of Murray's close friends in the league, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, was devastated upon hearing the news and offered his support to Murray on Instagram:

This is a very tough blow for the Spurs. Murray played in 81 games last year and was going to be the full-time starter this season now that Tony Parker is with the Charlotte Hornets. Murray averaged 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the floor, 26.5 percent from beyond the arc and 70.9 percent from the free-throw line in 2017-18. The 22-year-old Seattle native posted 10.1 points per game in 48 games as a starter.

Murray and James share the same agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports. The two have developed a close bond over the past few seasons. James has always been a fan of Murray's defensive ability. Murray made the second-team All-Defensive squad last season. The 6-foot-5 floor general is one of the tallest and lengthiest point guards in the NBA today, frequently using his size to cause havoc.

With Murray out, the Spurs will likely start Patty Mills at point guard and move Derrick White up the team's depth chart.
