LeBron James is a modern day superhero. The Los Angeles Lakers star came from humble beginnings in Akron, Ohio and now he's the best player in the NBA. Not only that, James is one of the most recognizable faces in the world and he's a champion for social justice causes. He may not have a superpower like you read in the comic books, but James is as close to a superhero as we will get.

James spoke about how he idolized Batman as a child but never imagined he could become Batman. James told Marisa Guthrie of The Hollywood Reporter:

“I always wanted to be a superhero. Batman was my favorite. But I knew I could never be Bruce Wayne. You've got to understand, for me that was in no way possible; I never felt like I could be the president of a multibillion-dollar company.”

Well, he doesn't wear a cape and he doesn't drive the Batmobile, but James is proving his younger self wrong. James is becoming increasingly influential in many different places. Of course, he's a basketball player first, but he's a savvy businessman, he's delving into movies and television, and most importantly, he recently opened up the I Promise School in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

If James always wanted to be a superhero when he was growing up, he's living out his childhood dream. The dream continues in Los Angeles this year as James looks to bring the Lakers back to prominence. If he can do that, his legend will continue to grow.
