The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly looking to add a backup point guard as they look to solidify their roster in the quest for a championship.

Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported the Lakers being in the market for a point man during an episode of ‘The Jump.” The crew discussed the possibility of acquiring Darren Collison after reports surfaced suggesting he was considering a return to the NBA:

Frank Vogel and the Lakers have allowed LeBron James to control the offense as a point forward. Meanwhile, Rajon Rondo has come off the bench to provide depth in the back court.

Rondo has made the most of his time, averaging 7.1 points, 5.3 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 21.0 minutes per game. He's also shooting nearly 39 percent from beyond the arc.

But his priority–when he is on the floor–is clearly to distribute the ball to James and Anthony Davis in the pick-and-roll. Despite the surprisingly efficient shooting numbers, he is still be somewhat tentative to hoist from deep. Furthermore, Rondo is not really a scoring threat as a slasher. Rondo can also somewhat of a liability defensively because of his tendency to gamble in the passing lanes.

Collison is reportedly interested in returning to play for one of the L.A. teams after the veteran stunningly declared he was retiring this past summer. Collison averaged 11.2 points, 6.0 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals for the Indiana Pacers last year. He is extremely efficient both in not turning the ball over as well as shooting from the perimeter.

The Lakers could use another man capable of spreading the floor and asserting themselves as a lockdown defender.

Both traits of which Collison might be able to provide should he indeed elect to return.
