New Lakers big man Marc Gasol has called out a rumor that speculated he was returning to play in his home country of Spain next season. The former Raptors center started his professional career with FC Barcelona back in 2003 before making the move to the NBA just a few years later.

According to TSN's Josh Lewenberg, Gasol made it clear in a recent interview that a return to Spain was never in the cards and people simply made his rumor up themselves.

“That was not accurate at all. I think somebody made that assumption… People tried to make that decision for me but I never stated that. I never even spoke to Barcelona. That's the world we're living in now, you hear something and everybody runs with it”

Just days ago, Gasol inked a two-year deal with the defending NBA champions, the Los Angeles Lakers. There's been speculation that possibly, his brother Pau Gasol, could join him in LA next season, but the older of the two hasn't played early 2019.

Marc Gasol spent the last two parts of two seasons with the Raps, winning a title in 2019 after a mid-season trade from the Memphis Grizzlies, where he spent the previous 11 years. He's averaged 14.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in his career, but his numbers were substantially lower with Toronto, scoring just 8.1 points per night while grabbing 6.4 boards.

However, he should be a nice addition to Frank Vogel's team. They've totally revamped their frontcourt, shipping out JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard, while bringing in Montrezl Harrell and Gasol.

The Spaniard should definitely see his fair share of minutes this season with the champs as they look to repeat. With a stronger roster, it looks increasingly possible that LeBron and co. can do so.
