In response to reports that the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to add a third play-maker around LeBron James and Anthony Davis — perhaps indicating disinterest in re-signing Dennis Schroder — one former Miami Heat teammate who won two NBA championships with LeBron is throwing his hat into the ring: Mario motherf*ckin Chalmers!

“Let me get a shot at this…..just a workout or let me come play pick up,” the 35-year old point guard tweeted.

For some reason, I don't think Chalmers is exactly who the Lakers have in mind as they seek to ease the ball-handling load off James and upgrade their third-banana next to LeBron and AD.

So far this summer, the Lakers have been linked to (active) players such as Ben Simmons, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Lowry, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Collin Sexton, among other wings. Los Angeles has to decide how far into the luxury tax they are willing to go, which will determine whether they can re-sign key back-court players Talen Horton-Tucker and Alex Caruso (not to mention Schroder).

Chalmers last played in the NBA in 2017-18 with the Memphis Grizzlies. He appeared in 66 games, starting 10, and averaged 7.7 points, 3.0 assists, and 1.2 steals. Over nine seasons, the former Kansas Jayhawks hero averaged 8.9 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game on .417/.351/.793 shooting splits.

In 2019, following his first (and only) season in the BIG3, Chalmers told ClutchPoints' Tomer Azarly that he hoped to get another NBA tryout.

“Yeah, I’m definitely still looking,” he told ClutchPoints. “I haven’t worked out with anybody, but I’m definitely still looking to get back there.”

Chalmers has since played for AEK Athens and Aris of the Greek Basket League.

Chalmers played for the Heat from 2008-16 and was the predominant starting point guard alongside James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh for the Heatles Era. He appeared in 99 playoff games for Miami and averaged 9.5 points and 3.0 assists in 30.2 minutes per game across 23 NBA Finals contests.

His greatest NBA moment came in Game 4 of the NBA Finals when he dropped a clutch 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting to lead the Heat to victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
