The Los Angeles Lakers announced late Thursday night that backup point guard Rajon Rondo underwent successful surgery on his right hand and will miss four-to-five weeks.

Rondo, 32, suffered a broken right hand in the Lakers' home win over the Portland Trail Blazers Wednesday night.

Rajon Rondo signed a one-year deal with the Lakers in July after spending last season with the New Orleans Pelicans. He began the season as the starter, but then lost his spot to second-year point guard Lonzo Ball after he was suspended four games for spitting and punching Houston Rockets All-Star guard Chris Paul in the second game of the year.

In 11 games so far this season, Rajon Rondo is averaging 8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists. The four-time All-Star is shooting 45.5 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from beyond the arc and 50.0 percent from the free-throw line. The Lakers' defense has been better this season when Rondo has been on the court compared to when he is on the bench.

Lonzo Ball will be playing extended minutes now that Rondo is out for an extended period of time. The Lakers don't have a third point guard listed on the depth chart. LA has won four games in a row and will look to make it five-straight when they take on the Orlando Magic on Saturday.
