Former Los Angeles Lakers big man Shaquille O'Neal was arguably the biggest prize of the NBA draft in the 1990s and was a no-doubter number one overall pick for the Orlando Magic back in 1992.

The hype isn't exactly the same for his son Shareef. But the 2022 NBA draft prospect is reportedly getting a look from the very same Lakers his father won championships for, this according to The Athletic's Jovan Buha. He also has a few scheduled workouts with Eastern Conference teams on his slate after finishing his past one with the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday.

Draft prospect Shareef O’Neal has an upcoming workout set with the Lakers, sources tell The Athletic. O’Neal worked out for the Bucks today and has scheduled visits to Cleveland, Atlanta and Washington among others. Shams Charania reported this week that O’Neal is draft eligible.

The 6'10” prospect posted averages of just 2.6 points and 3.0 rebounds in 37 career NCAA games. He spent his first season at UCLA before transferring LSU, the same alma mater as his father Shaq. He also posted a five-word tweet moments after the news of his Lakers workout was reported.

“All of this is earned,” said Shareef O'Neal.

The Lakers actually do not own a draft pick in the upcoming NBA draft, but given that Shareef O'Neal isn't slated to go anywhere near the first round, LA could likely choose to buy off someone else's second round pick or potentially sign him outright if he slips through the cracks.

Shareef may not be the prized gem that Shaq was, but he's putting in the work to make his own NBA dreams come true.
