With the Los Angeles Lakers looking to add a piece or two to further boost their chances for a title this season, the team is fully expected to be active on the market as the trade deadline approaches. The Lakers could also look to

According to Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Heavy.com, Smith is scheduled for a workout with the Lakers. Nonetheless, Smith eventually signing for L.A. is anything but certain at this point.

“There are no guarantees,” said the source. “They want to see what he can do and if it is a fit, we’ll take it from there.”

This is not the first time we've heard about Smith possibly suiting up for the Lakers, with Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes also providing some insight on this matter on a preseason episode of Robinson's Scoop B Radio Podcast:

“Because I think they want to go into the season with the roster they have,” Haynes explained. “Check the first 10, 15 games, see how things are going, check the list of numbers and percentages and see what they lack before they decide what they’re gonna do.

“The only thing with J.R. is you have to see where he is mentally, if he’s gonna come in and behave like a model citizen. But, you can’t deny his skill-set, or that he’s one of the best catch and shoot players in the league; championship pedigree. He knows how to play at a high level. So, I actually thought he’d be gone by now.”

There is no doubt that Smith's relationship with Lakers superstar LeBron James would be a factor in whatever decision L.A. makes. Smith and James were once teammates with the Cleveland Cavaliers for no less than three and a half seasons. Smith also played a pivotal role in the Cavs' amazing title run during the 2015-16 season.

The Lakers currently have a full roster, but if they wanted to bring JR Smith in, they could do some maneuvering.
