The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly have “no chance” of signing Kawhi Leonard this summer in free agency, according to Chris Broussard of Fox Sports.

Broussard reports the Los Angeles Clippers are the front runners to sign Leonard, who becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

The Lakers currently don't have cap space to sign Leonard to a max slot, but Broussard says even if the Purple and Gold do create cap space, it won't matter.

“Let me give you a little inside information I’ve been told today,” Broussard said on I-Heart Radio. “The Lakers are out and have no chance of getting Kawhi Leonard. Even if they clear up enough cap room for a max contract, they’re not getting Kawhi. I’m told the Clippers are the front runner.”

Leonard just won his second Finals MVP. Why would he want to play third fiddle to LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the Lakers? The three-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year is likely going to decide between the Clippers and Toronto Raptors, who can offer Leonard the most money this summer and a fifth year on his contract.

If Leonard stays with the Raptors, he will probably sign a one-plus-one deal and enter free agency again next summer. It doesn't look like the Lakers are in the mix for any of the star free agents this offseason. They might as well use their cap space to fill out the rest of the roster to create depth.
