According to an announcement by the League of Legends Championship Korea (LCK), Fredit BRION's match against GenG will result in a forfeit, due to the fact that Fredit BRION players testing positive for COVID-19. Before this, the main roster for Fredit BRION have also tested positive, prompting an emergency call-up for their Challenger team to play their LCK match against T1. This is an announcement regarding the changes to the March 16th match between GenG and Fredit BRION as a result of COVID-19.

Due to 2 members of Fredit BRION's emergency call-up team testing positive for COVID, Fredit BRION will not be able to field a team and will forfeit the match (score 0:2).

Regarding the background of this decision, we will provide a short explanation. The following is the LCK's protocol in the event of COVID positive cases on a team.

  1. Substitutions within the main roster.
  2. (if 1 is not possible) Emergency call-up/send-down
  3. (if 2 is not possible) Rescheduling of match

The following are the reasons why case 3, rescheduling of the match, cannot be applied to this case.

When the LCK provided these protocols to the teams, it was explained that “for cases discovered within 2-3 weeks of playoffs, if the game cannot resume before the Thursday before playoffs, the team will be handed a forfeit.”

The reasoning for this is as follows:

  1. Due to Asian Games and International competition schedules, the LCK does not have the freedom to move playoffs.
  2. The reason for the Thursday before playoffs was chosen as a deadline was in order to prevent any teams from playing back-to-back or doubleheaders.
  3. Additionally, there is a high chance of having tie-breakers on the final day of the regular season, and we decided not to schedule matches afterward.

Therefore, after informing the teams, we would like to inform the fans of Fredit BRION's forfeit in the next match.

Fredit BRION vs DWG KIA on Saturday (19th) will take place as planned.

Currently, Fredit BRION sits in 5th place in the rankings, with a 7-10 match record and 19-22 game record. They sit just outside of playoffs contention, with all teams placed in 1st-4th already qualified for playoffs. This decision surely hurts their chances at qualifying, but since the LCK does not allow matches to be played remotely, the most they could do is play their match against DWG KIA and win.
