After the success of Netflix's Quarterback series, an NBA-equivalent series could be in the works. LeBron James, Peyton Manning, and Barack Obama's production company could be making this happen.

Variety confirmed that an NBA docuseries a la Quarterback is in the works. The Wall Street Journal initially reported the news. This will be produced by James' SpringHill Company, Manning's Omaha Productions, and the Obamas' Higher Ground. It will follow the lives of a select few NBA players throughout their seasons.

Netflix's Quarterback consisted of eight episodes and followed the lives of Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota. It gave behind-the-scenes glimpses at their lives on and off the field. All three quarterbacks had varying degrees of success. Mariota was benched mid-season, while Cousins made the playoffs. Mahomes won the Super Bowl.

The Obamas' production company, Higher Ground, has won Oscars in the past. They also have a first-look deal with Netflix, meaning that streamer could be the one to land this NBA series. Omaha Productions is headed by Peyton and Eli Manning. They're currently doing their ESPN broadcast for Monday Night Football, the “ManningCast.”

SpringHill Company was founded by James and Maverick Carter in 2008. Some of their recent credits include Space Jam: A New Legacy, Hustle (a Netflix film), and The Shop.

This is an all-star group assembled for the NBA series. LeBron James, Peyton Manning, and Barack and Michelle Obama. It's still yet to be seen what streaming service this will land on. Netflix is a safe bet, but it's also unclear who will star in it. Regardless, if it's half as entertaining or insightful as Quarterback, this has a great chance at being special.
