This is what Messi said in English:

“Your impressive career made you a great reference point for Argentine sports and around the world… Thank you Luis Scola.”

Scola was selected 56th overall in the 2002 NBA Draft but with contract negotiations hitting a wall, he remained in the EuroLeague. However, the Argentinian made his way to the NBA in 2007, spending five seasons with the Houston Rockets.

Luis Scola went onto play a total of 11 years in the association, also suiting up for the Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns, Indiana Pacers, and Brooklyn Nets. The big man averaged 12 points and 6.7 rebounds throughout his NBA career.

For Argentina, he helped them capture numerous awards, including a silver in the 2019 FIBA championships and a bronze in the 2008 Olympics. Alongside Manu Ginobli, they became two of the most decorated players the country has ever seen in the sport.

When you get a shoutout from someone like Leo Messi, it definitely means something. Luis Scola will go down as one of the best Argentine basketball players to ever live.
