Jermaine Kearse almost ended up a member of the Detroit Lions, but for now he'll remain a free agent. The veteran receiver worked out for the team and was offered a contract, but an agreement couldn't be reached, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

Judging by the wording, it sounds like Kearse is holding out for more money, or more guarantees. Unfortunately, we don't have the specifics on what Kearse was offered or what he is looking for. An undrafted free agent out of Washington in 2012, Kearse first signed with the Seahawks.

He had plenty of success in Seattle, and ended up winning Super Bowl XLVIII with the team. Kearse had four catches for 65 yards and a touchdown in the big game. After five seasons with the Seahawks, Kearse was traded to the Jets as part of the Sheldon Richardson trade.

He had a solid first season in New York, reeling in a career-high 65 receptions for 810 yards and five touchdowns. His role was greatly reduced last season though, and he finished with only 37 catches for 371 yards and one touchdown.

After trading away Golden Tate last season the Lions have a lot of receiving production to replace, so it makes sense why they'd be sniffing around the free agent receiver market.

There aren't many big name players left available, and Kearse is one of the more noteworthy players still on the market. Kearse obviously wasn't happy with his role last season, and is looking to prove he can still be a quality option. Still only 29, he should have plenty left in the tank physically.
