Like Matthew Stafford, Jared Goff had also previously spent his entire NFL career with one franchise since being drafted first overall by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 Draft.

But the changed after Goff was dealt by the Rams to the Detroit Lions along with two first round picks and a third round pick in a stunning trade. Less than a day after the blockbuster traded and it seems as if Goff is already throwing shade at his former team.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated’s Michael Silver, the 26-year old signal-caller expressed excitement that he would be joining the Lions, while adding that he wants to play for a team that “wants him and appreciates him.”

After the Rams’ loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round, head coach Sean McVay said that Jared Goff would still be the team’s starter moving forward instead of backup John Wolford. However, that seemed to change in the following days, with reports surfacing that there will be competition at quarterback between Goff and Wolford during training camp, which culminated in the trade with the Lions.

There have also been reports of a rift between Goff and McVay after his 2020 season, which saw him 370 of 552 passes for 3,952 passing yards and 20 touchdowns while also having 13 interceptions in 15 games. During his time in Los Angeles, Goff was a two-time Pro Bowler, even helping the team reach the Super Bowl in the 2018 season.

But the team chose to move on from the California product, who now looks to help the Lions bounce back from a season that saw them finish with a 5-11 record.
