The ongoing saga and questions surrounding Jared Goff's future in Los Angeles with the Rams continue to get crazier.

Now there may be an explanation as to why head coach Sean McVay has flip-flopped on whether Goff is his quarterback moving forward.

The saga started on Saturday following the Rams' loss to the Green Bay Packers, knocking them out of the playoffs. Following the game, McVay told the media that Goff is “the quarterback right now.”

While not a direct endorsement, it made it seem as though Goff was in the clear for now. Sunday, however, McVay's tune changed quite drastically. When asked again if Goff is the Rams quarterback going into the 2021 season McVay would not say yes, just stating that Goff would have to compete for his role.

Now NFL Network's Steve Wyche is reporting that the inconsistent answers may mean more than just uncertainty.

“So I think a lot of people are wondering if they're going to bring in a veteran type of quarterback to push Jared Goff this offseason,” Wyche said. “Or at least have that threat there as a backup to see if they can elevate Goff. The people I've spoken to said basically at this moment the relationship with Goff and McVay: not great. They need marriage counseling is what one person said to me. I think this is something that they're going to be able to work through, but there's got to be some healing and that's not just with Jared Goff's injured thumb.”

This makes the offseason much more interesting in Los Angeles. There are now many more questions than answers when it comes to the quarterback situation in the Rams organization. Now it appears as though the big question is whether the relationship between Goff and McVay can be salvaged or if it would be better for a divorce.
